Control Plan 1st Edition

The "new" Core Tools.

Control Plan 1st Edition. When we talk about Core Tools in the automotive industry, most organizations always considered the Control Plan one of them. However, this tool was actually included as an implementation requirement in the APQP Manual, where we could see how to “fill in the form,” with a brief explanation in one of the APQP Manual's appendices

The industry decided to separate the Control Plan and create an exclusive manual

Nevertheless, with the implementation of IATF 16949as well as constant changes in the Customer's Specific Requirements and AIAG-VDA FMEA Manual 2019 (AMEF), the importance of the Control Plan increased, and now with the new release of the APQP Manual 3rd EditionThe industry decided to separate the Control Plan and create an exclusive manual for this "new" Core Tool that automotive industry organisations have to implement.

Below is a brief summary of the Control Plan Manual, 1st Edition:

  1. The new Control Plan management manual contains 4 chapters:
  • Chapter 1: Control Plan Requirements and Guidelines
  • Chapter 2: Development of the Control Plan.
  • Section 3: Phases of the Control Plan
  • Section 4: Effective Use of Control Plans.
  1. It emphasizes that the Control Plan is a living document.
  2. It includes an expanded direction to the process approach.
  3. A new Safe Launch Control Plan is included.
  4. Specific controls, Error Proofing vs. error detection (Mistake Proofing).
  5. Special feature and transfer management (Pass-Through).
  6. Documented reaction plan with the responsible person identified.
  7. Considerations for Improving Effectiveness.

In general, it moves beyond the focus on “filling out the form” to how to develop an effective Control Plan that serves as a living tool for product quality control and the process within industry and to ensure that's the actual operative expression of AMEF.

Finally, automakers are allowing an implementation or transition period of 6 months from publication on 01 March 2024, so: The new Control Plan Manual is here, and we offer training to help you understand and implement it!
