10 key points in the development of Core Tools

In the automotive industry, the implementation of Core Tools is increasingly important in the management of quality systems. Here we give you 10 key points in the development of Core Tools.

Not developing these properly cannot lead to noncompliance with the requirements specified by IATF 16949, so we will give you 10 key points to avoid errors in their implementation.

10 key points in the development of Core Tools.

1. Train key people

who will develop them and, above all, use them. Training in these tools is essential to avoid failure in implementation.

2. Involvement of operational personnel

in its implementation, operators must understand the tools and help implement them.

3. Establishment of multidisciplinary task forces

in its development and implementation, participation from all organizational areas is important: Sales, Production, Quality, Supply Chain, Human Resources and Finance, to name a few.

4. Analyze processes using

their maps or diagrams, but physically walking through them to identify their gaps and opportunities.

5. Identify the Requirements

Customer-Specific and use the tools to meet them.

6. Conduct the risk analysis

that FMEA (AMEF) provides, thoroughly rather than merely to meet a requirement, identifying every possible failure mode and cause. Define actions to mitigate risks and, above all, verify their effectiveness. For this last step, we can perform Reverse FMEA (AMEF).

7. Ensure that Control Charts

can be interpreted across all known patterns. We often focus only on ensuring no points fall outside the limits, but other patterns and trends must be recognized and interpreted to improve or correct the process.

8. To identify critical features

of the products and processes measured and establish relevant Measurement System Analyses ensuring product quality and customer-specific requirements compliance, also adding them to control plans.

9. To understand that an issue certificate

for a part is the least important aspect of PPAP, as it is only a document. What matters is meeting customer requirements in terms of production capacity and product quality so the Certificate can be approved.

10. See the APQP,

as what it is: a project management methodology that ensures product quality. To apply it correctly, the full process approach of the different development stages must be followed.

At JS Training & Consulting, we can help you implement Core Tools successfully to ensure the quality of your products and processes and, above all, meet customer requirements.
