I'll ask you a few questions:
Does Your Company Have Defective Products or Services?
Do you seek to make those defective products and services conforming to avoid losing them?
When you try to bring them into compliance, do you find that you cannot and ultimately have to dispose of them?
Do you have an established procedure to try to bring those products and services into conformity?
If the answer to more than one of the questions above is YES, congratulations: you have taken on a problem without realizing it.
Without realizing it, most companies today adopt “rework or reprocessing” as part of production. They invest human, material, technological and financial resources in these activities, all of which ultimately become WASTE.
And why does this happen?
Because we have not fully solved the problems that arose and caused this “Rework or Reprocessing.”
One of the main reasons this happens is that our processes are completely out of control. Several factors contribute: we have grown exponentially without worrying about how; our managers do not consider process control important as long as customer commitments are met, and “save” in other areas, such as training or staffing, to compensate; we have not properly identified the risk factors or clearly understood customer requirements; and, ultimately, what matters most is producing or providing the service by any means possible. There is also a lack of awareness that tools have existed for many years to help us keep our processes under control, such as LEAN philosophy and CORE TOOLS.
And now you are going to tell me:
What Are the LEAN Philosophy and CORE TOOLS? They are administrative and statistical tools for keeping a process under control and fully identifying customer requirements, achieving properly approved, well-designed products and services.
And those who already know them will say to me:
“LEAN is only for Manufacturing”: they could not be more mistaken. Today, LEAN is implemented in organizations of every type and size. LEAN Manufacturing is the best-known form, but there are also LEAN Management, LEAN Startup, LEAN Logistics, LEAN Construction, LEAN Enterprise and many other applications.
And they will also say:
“CORE TOOLS are used only in the automotive industry.” Guess what? That is wrong: today, these tools can be implemented in any line of business.
To avoid unknowingly taking on more problems, let us discover the LEAN Philosophy and CORE TOOLS and learn to use them.
