Hey, friends!
Develop a Lasting Legacy. In this installment of John Maxwell’s 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, we will address the last 6 laws, which, like the previous ones, offer valuable material for leadership in the new century. Without further ado, let’s explore them:
Did you miss the previous laws? Revisit them here: A Leader's Greatest Mission
16. Law of Momentum:
Murphy’s famous law says, “If something can go wrong, it will; if it can go worse, it will.” Maxwell changes the game by shifting the focus to the positive. When a true leader follows the path of effort and hard work, positive results eventually come. This creates an inner energy: once positive momentum builds, doors and windows open for the team and leader almost by themselves. But take care: maintaining morale, a positive outlook and focused work is essential.
17. Law of Priorities:
There will be many tasks along the way, but a leader must identify the most important activities that yield the highest proportion of results. Balance daily work using the familiar 80/20 principle so that the activities, tasks and projects you lead are truly efficient and deliver substantial value. Not everything depends on the leader... Delegate!
18. The Law of Sacrifice:
Every choice involves giving something up; every action brings a reaction. As leaders, we must remember that reaching goals and objectives, achieving change and making a considerable impact inherently require some sacrifice to make progress. This may mean time, space, effort or more work. As Einstein said, “Insanity is seeking different results while doing the same thing.” Change is a rule. Want different results? Change.
19. The Law of Timing:
There is no coincidence. There is hard work, relentless searching, daily work and intelligent effort. In the same spirit, when opportunity appears, the key is being prepared in the right place at the right time to make the right decisions. It is not a chance event: it is the combination of preparation and daily effort.
20. Law of Explosive Growth:
This law goes hand in hand with the Law of Reproduction, which states that every leader’s duty is to develop new leaders. A single person—just one—can change a great company’s future and direction. For that to happen, it takes a fierce, focused leader constantly seeking that explosion of talent.
21. Law of Legacy:
And that is all, friends. At the end of the day, what is everything we do, work for, contribute and sweat over really for? How will you make a lasting impact in life, your company and your employees? Seek to leave a positive inheritance and build an enduring legacy. Let people remember your excellent leadership and how you “changed the game” in your business. Like Achilles in ancient Greece, may your name live forever.
Develop an everlasting legacy: let people remember you for your excellent leadership
