When we talk about CONOCER competency standards, we mean a set of occupational competencies that give nationally recognized validity to the knowledge, skills and behaviors professionals demonstrate in their work. CONOCER is an organization responsible for professionalizing occupational competencies and ensuring that people who demonstrate the relevant skills or knowledge receive an official document endorsing their preparation. For example, there is no degree program for forklift operators, so CONOCER works with experts and institutions to develop a standard for safe forklift operation, enabling people in this occupation to demonstrate their expertise to employers.

In this context, there are more than 1,000 different standards available to anyone who wants to have evidence and professionalism in his or her area of work.

At JS Training & Consulting, we are proud to be a CONOCER assessment center, part of the network seeking to professionalize productive workplace activities. We currently offer 5 standards: EC0217, Delivering In-Person Group Human Capital Training; EC0306, Recruitment and Selection of Administrative and Operational Personnel; EC0391.01, Verification of Workplace Safety and Hygiene Conditions; EC0581, Integration and Operation of Joint Training, Skills Development and Productivity Committees; and EC076, Assessment of Candidates’ Competencies against Competency Standards.

This final standard is precisely the subject of this blog.

The certification process for any CONOCER standard requires every candidate seeking recognition to demonstrate the behaviors, skills and attitudes described in the document, along with outputs or evidence supporting their training in that area. An evaluator prepares specifically to conduct this process, working closely and in coordination with candidates so they can achieve certification after a period of time.

To become a CONOCER assessor, you must obtain certification in this standard (EC076), which provides the knowledge and processes needed to perform the role. But be careful: we often believe that this document lets us work with any of the more than 1,000 standards. It does not. Besides being an assessor, you must also be certified in the standard you assess. For example, to assess the instructor competency standard, I must hold both certifications; otherwise, I could assess only EC076.

Who Can Become a CONOCER Assessor? Anyone interested in developing in this exciting field and working professionally, either to earn extra income or to work in it full-time, as there are many possibilities.

What do I need to become an assessor? First, contact an assessment center such as JS Training & Consulting and take the diagnostic examination. It is free: any assessment center charging for this process is violating CONOCER rules. The examination determines your knowledge level and recommends training, alignment with the standard, or proceeding directly to assessment. Candidates may also choose according to their interests. An assessor is then assigned to guide you toward certification.

Why Should I Become an Assessor? To work alongside professionals seeking to improve many people's occupational competencies and raise the quality of work in Mexico.

How long does the process take? It simply depends on your availability to move more or less quickly, but in a favorable scenario, the entire process can be completed in as little as 15 days.

What are you waiting for? We invite you to take on a new challenge in your professional life and, above all, contribute to improving productivity and making this country much more competitive. It benefits us all.
