Course: Time and Motion Studies

Leaders in professional training:

Time and Motion Study Course: Optimizing Productivity and Processes

At JS Training & Consulting, we eliminate waste and maximize productivity. This 24-hour program teaches you to improve processes continuously, avoid overproduction, reduce lead times and inventories, and eliminate waste through proven methods of time study, motion economy and standard work. If you need to work smarter, not harder, and optimize every second of your operations, this course transforms your work area.

You will master operation analysis, process diagrams, Value Stream Mapping, cellular manufacturing, time study methods, predetermined times, SMED for changeover reduction and standardized work, all focused on maximizing value-adding activities and minimizing those that add nothing.

Course objectives

Improving Process Times

You will improve process times through rigorous operational analysis. You will understand the importance of productivity, the scope of methods and standards, and recording and analysis techniques such as process, flow and worker-machine charts.

Maximization of Value Activities

You will learn to maximize activities that add real value and eliminate or minimize those that do not. You will use motion economy, Value Stream Mapping, and cellular manufacturing to design efficient work.

Minimizing Changeover Times

You will minimize changeover times through SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Die) and optimization of setups and tools. You will dramatically reduce downtime between products or processes.

Intelligent and Optimized Work

You will learn to work smarter through work design based on human capabilities and limitations. You will implement standard work, predetermined time systems, and operations analysis to simplify and streamline each activity.

Results at the end of the course

Knowledge to improve the work area

You will gain practical knowledge to improve your work area through operations analysis, part design, tolerances, material handling, and plant layout. You will recognize improvement opportunities currently limiting your productivity.

Strategic Maximization and Minimization

You will learn to maximize important, value-adding activities and minimize inconsequential activities that consume time without contributing value. You will apply motion economy, motion study, and Value Stream Mapping to identify hidden waste.

Improvement of Operating Times

You will improve operating times through time studies using appropriate equipment, correct elements, validated methods and calculated standard times. You will implement predetermined time systems for new operations.

Overall optimization of Activities

You will optimize work activities through documented standardized work, SMED for quick changeovers, cellular manufacturing and ergonomic job design. You will recognize and eliminate overproduction, reduce inventories, improve lead times, cut waste and improve customer service. You will transform operations into a lean, agile, highly productive system that maximizes resources and minimizes waste.
