Course 5s + 1: The Principle of Excellence in Order and Cleanliness
At JS Training & Consulting, we have developed our 5s + 1 course, specifically designed to meet the needs for organization, cleaning and waste elimination in organizations seeking operational excellence. This program also comprehensively addresses the Japanese methodology (Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu, Shitsuke) + 1 (Shikari, Shitsukoku, Seishoo, Seido), focused on safety, reliability and continuous improvement. It therefore provides a complete solution for companies wishing to considerably reduce costs, lower accident rates and increase the reliability of their teams.
Your employees can thus learn the origins and benefits of 5´s + 1, distinguish each stage (sorting, organization, cleaning, standardization and discipline), implement 5´s campaigns with effective audits and understand the “Eight Zeros” that ensure quality. The course also promotes a continuous improvement culture, sustainable organizational change and skills that make 5´s + 1 an everyday practice for all employees, creating safe, organized and highly productive workplaces.
Our in-person and live virtual courses are designed for groups of at least 15 people. If you require this training for a small group (1 to 4 people) or individually, click the following button to get to know the available options:
Course objectives
Origin knowledge and Foundations of the 5's + 1
First, participants will learn the origins of the 5´s + 1 methodology and why it is named that way. They will learn each “S” and its specific breakdown within the system, distinguishing Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu and Shitsuke, along with the 4 additional continuous improvement “S” elements.
Understanding Operating Benefits
They will also understand the benefits that implementing 5S + 1 brings to daily operations. They will learn the objectives and the “Eight Zeros” that guarantee excellence. They will consequently be able to visualize how this methodology reduces costs and affects team safety and reliability.
Practical implementation in the Company
Participants also understand operational implementation of 5S + 1 through campaigns and audits. They learn to measure success systematically and break traditional patterns to initiate effective organizational change.
Generation of Culture of continuous improvement
Finally, participants recognize the internal changes resulting from implementing 5S + 1. They understand that change is the only constant and how 5S + 1 relates to continuous improvement. They then apply Shikari, Shitsukoku, Seishoo and Seido, creating a sustainable culture of order, cleanliness and discipline practiced by all employees.
Results at the end of the course
Mastery of the 5S + 1 Culture
First, the participant will learn about the culture of the 5's + 1 and its strategic importance in the organisation. Also, they will know and differentiate every stage of the 5's + 1 and its specific benefits. Thus, they will gain an understanding of the full scope of this Japanese methodology of operational excellence.
Practical application of each stage
Participants will also learn practical applications of 5´s + 1 across company areas, distinguishing sorting (Seiri), organization (Seiton), cleaning (Seiso), standardization (Seiketsu) and discipline (Shitsuke). They will know how to apply each concept effectively in their workplace.
Process implementation 5's + 1
On the other hand, you will be able to implement a complete 5's + 1 process in your company with structured campaigns. Thus, you will develop the capacity to design audits to evaluate compliance. Thus, you will set up protocols to ensure an environment of quality, order and safety in the organisation.
Measuring Success and Results
You will also measure 5S + 1 implementation using clear indicators, evaluating its impact on cost reduction, fewer accidents and greater reliability. You will achieve the “Eight Zeros” of excellence: zero defects, zero breakdowns, zero accidents and others.
Generation of Sustainable Cultural Change
Finally, you will understand the benefits of establishing a sustainable 5S + 1 culture in your organization. You will also apply continuous improvement concepts—Shikari, Shitsukoku, Seishoo and Seido—to sustain change. This makes 5S + 1 a common practice and daily discipline, transforming your work area into an organized, clean, safe and highly productive space characteristic of leading companies.
